3.3.1 Definition
Master Data Management or MDM is a process that business units and IT collaborate, cleanse, publish and protect common information assets that can be shared across the entire company.  MDM can help an organization reduce costs because it causes the organization to look at 'what's not working efficiently or may be broken'.
But the biggest thing to remember is that
  • is a process
  • business & IT must collaborate
The goal of MDM is to create trusted data.  The definition of trusted data is: Data used by business stakeholders to support their processes, decisions, or regulatory requirements with no reservations as to the data’s  relevance, accuracy, integrity, and other previously  agreed upon definitions of quality.
