3.1.1 Governance
A very good definition of data governance is 'the organizing framework for aligning strategy, defining objectives and establishing policies for enterprise information.  It's really important that the enterprise understand and agree with the IT definition.  They must realize that 'data governance' is not the same as 'data management'.  Data governance is the decision-rights and policy-making for corporate data while data management is the execution of these policies. Both require executive commitment and both require investment but data governance has to be business-driven and data management is a skills-rich IT function.
